Product Description

Lagom Bush Knife Green Micarta

O1 Tool Steel

Full Tang

Scandi Grind to Zero

JRE Leather Sheath with Firesteel loop and removable dangler for multiple carry options

This knife is a collaboration between Ben Piersma from Ben's Backwoods, Jason Gustafson from Lester River Bushcraft and L.T. Wright Knives.

Lagom is a Swedish term used for "Just Right"

Not too big, not too small, not to heavy, not too light.

Jason and I have drawn from our extensive training with our mentor Mors Kochanski and the Scandinavian style knives we feel make the most useful wilderness living tools.

Design Features:

The Handle:

Large oval handle which tapers from front to back and is swelled in the middle to fill your hand. #1 priority of a bush knife is carving and cutting. This handle fills your hand in comfort for all day work with no hot spots or cramping. This is very important if you need to peel a dozen sticks for a set of Roycroft snowshoes!

This handle will feel best with average to large hands and is comfortable in many working positions including a reverse grip using it as a one handed draw knife.

The Blade:

O1 Tool steel, this carbon steel holds a excellent edge and is easy to sharpen and maintain.

Full Tang 1" wide blade 1/8" thick, 3 1/2" long, a palm width.

These dimensions are chosen as a good combination of strength with a blade thin enough not to loose cutting and carving ability.

Scandi grind blade, as the main purpose of a bush knife is peeling sticks and carving.

Full continuous curve on the cutting edge makes sharpening easier and ensures you are cutting wood fibers, meat, etc. on a angle which is always more efficient.

The full curve also gives this knife a narrow tip which handles like alot smaller knife for fine wood carving detail.

The spine on the knife is ground square to be used as a scraper on wood or to run your firesteel.

The Sheath:

We sized the sheath to take about 2/3 of the handle as is the scandinavian style for a secure sheath, you may want to add a cord lanyard on the end of the knife.

Firesteel loop for the 3/8" Army size firesteel.

Belt dangler attachment which is nice for sitting down and hanging a bit lower when wearing cold weather layers. You can remove the dangler and run the sheath on your belt or add a neck cord.

  1. Sublime 5 Star Review

Simply an extension of my hand. Cuts as if it is not there. No hot spots, no fatigue, no problems. Thank you.

  2. LT Wright + Mors Kochanski = perfection 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Mar 2018

I was interested in this knife because it was designed after the great Mors Kochanski’s ideal knife. It did not disappoint, but then again I’ve never had an LT Wright knife disappoint me. The size of this knife is perfect for bushcraft tasks, and is ideal for a primitive setup as well. If Mors is a source for information for you, then this knife is a must have. If you are sitting on the fence between this knife and the many other LT knives out there, this knife will not disappoint. It really is “lagom” for time in the woods and is now my go to bush knife. Thanks Ben for a great design.

  3. Great Knife. Easy care and maintenance 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Feb 2018

I've had a few chances to use this knife and used it for making shavings, batoning and food prep. The knife stays sharp for a long time and comes shaving sharp right out of the box. It is very easy to sharpen and readily returns to its initial edge. The spine on this knife is a perfect 90° angle making it ideal for striking a fire steel as well as making extremely fine shavings. It feels great in your hand and is a very nice weight. As a bonus I was very pleased with the leather sheath.

  4. Extremely Good Knife 4 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Dec 2017

I like this knife very much. The blade is the right size and shape (I’m not a big fan of big knives, except the kukri). But, the big plus to this knife is the handle. It combines a shape similar to a Mora Classic only longer and full tang. I have extra large glove sized hands with long fingers and this knife feels very good in use.
The leather sheath is excellent quality, I removed the dangler.
I haven’t had this knife long enough to tell how much I will like it over time. I’ve used it for some simple chores around the house and on one overnight camping trip. Thus far I like it.

  5. The colaberation nailed it! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 4th Jan 2017

I took the Lagom out this last Sunday to prep some fire wood for a wood stove seasoning. I maxed out the blade length on a piece wood to baton it and the tip of the knife really tore up the baton. It went all the through this piece of wood though. All of the smaller pieces were split easily. It made feathers and fine shaving really well. I used the spine of the blade to shave some fatwood and it made very fine shavings. Two strikes of the fero rod and I had flames. The fero rod was new so the first strike really just cleaned the coating off, the second strike alone started the fire.

Ben, Jason and LT nailed this one. It'll be going on a lot of trips to Michigan's UP this coming year.

The only mods I did was to wet form the sheath, add a lanyard although it wasn't needed as the handle is well shaped, and I'm replacing the screw in the dangler with a snap to make it easier to get on and off my belt without unbuckling.

I can send some pics of the knife in use Ben if you want them.

    Well done guy's.

  6. My favorite knife 5 Star Review

This is a great knife. I agree with all the other good reviews. Perfect knife.

  7. 6 out of 5! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Nov 2016

Perfect bush knife. Ben and Jason nailed it. I have loved and used Scandinavian knives for years, but this is a definite improvement. Knife use has changed over the last 100 years and this knife is able to put up with the newer, heavy duty demand we put on our blades.

This knife really is lagom. It has been able to help me complete all of the tasks I've asked of it.

  8. Wonderful Knife 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Oct 2016

I really like this knife it's design was well thought out and planed. The blade is sharp with a good shape and size. The handle is very nicely sized and shaped, it is really comfortable but for me the finish is a bit too polished it can be a little slippery when my hands get wet or sweaty. Overall I am not disappointed at all, in fact I am very pleased with my purchase

  9. Typical LT Wright quality 5 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Sep 2016

Just what I wanted. A great bushcraft knife. Easy to work with and do fine tasks. Well made as is everything I've gotten from LT Wright. I have lg/xl hands, and this grip is perfect for me. So comfortable, no matter how you hold it. Razor sharp edge and sharp spine.

  10. Perfect Fit, Finish and function 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Aug 2016

The Lagom bush knife is the best knife I own. I have always been a Mora knife guy and wanted a higher end quality knife. I looked and searched, watched videos on YouTube, and did months of research. This knife is the perfect balance, it is very ergonomic with all day use comfort. The tool steel holds a very impressive edge, it chunks out birch all day if your into spoon carving or bushcraft. I can't say enough good about it, the sheath is a JRE sheath wich is a 40 dollar value by itself, buy a lagom bush knife and you won't regret it. It a friend for life!
