Posted by on 10th Dec 2016

I would have gave it a 5star rating if it didn't come with knicks already in the blade that will strop out the rest of blade was very sharp and still performs well Pretty comfortable in the hand ! As for bensbackwoods I really like the company and will order from them again Cheers mate
P.S. also was one of the lowest prices I found on the two blades I ordered

  4. Good bones but much better re-ground 3 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Oct 2014

Good steel and an OK curve, but the secondary bevel is bad news on a spoon knife. The back of the blade is way too thick and flat so it rubs on the spoon bowl as you cut, forcing the edge to dig in and chatter, leaving little speed bumps in the wood. if you can, remove the secondary bevel and make it just a single bevel or scandinavian-style grind ( AKA "Scandi", google this if you're not sure) and grind away the back edge, angling it up towards the back of the new single bevel(obviously not making another sharp edge on theback)so the blade is more rounded in profile from cutting edge to back edge. This way the blade can follow the curve of the spoon bowl as it moves through the wood and the back edge doesn't rub and make the blade dig in, giving smoother cuts. ALso grind off the sharp tip at the very end of the blade, it serves no purpose but could stab you nicely if you slip! Remember, if you're using any powered grinder, unless it's a wetstone grinder, stop VERY frequently and pour water on the blade to cool it. you should never see any colour change in the steel or be able to touch it for less than 3-4 seconds. if it gets too hot you'll ruin the temper (or hardness) of the steel and it won't keep a sharp edge.

  8. The best spoon knife is a Mora 164 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Feb 2014

Great knife! After a little honing the edge is perfectly sharp. It makes spoon carving much easier. After carving 30+ spoons I'm sorry I didn't order a Mora 164 knife many years ago. You offered great service! I got my knife four days after I placed my order.

  9. A Great Carving Tool 5 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Jan 2014

This is a great carving tool for traditional woodcraft items. A necessity for carving kuksas. I gave it 5 stars, because it is a great item that should last a lifetime and the value for the money cannot be beat.

  10. The Mora 5 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Jan 2014

I got this for my 25yr old son for christmas. One of the few presents he had to test right out of the box. Carved a great spoon out of some oak I had cut for firewood. Spoon turned out great and he and I are both very pleased with knife and how well it holds up with hard use. Thanks for making christmas special.
