I really like the mini fire steels. I always have one with me everywhere I go. The latest version is a little longer than the previous one, that's the only thing I would change. I liked the super compact size of the previous version. Other than that they are still a quality, reliable item that I highly recommend!

The mini scout firesteel was exactly what I was looking for. As with the other reviewer I was looking for a small but effective firesteel for a fire starting tin I was making. It throws a good bunch of sparks for it's size. The paracord lanyard and turned wooden handle gives you a surprisingly strong grip for sparking.
Mine lives in a RSK Mk5 tin along with the knife and assorted tinders for a small but effective firestarting kit.

The mini scout firesteels Ben's carries are just perfect for slipping into any conceivable spot when you don't want to bother with a fullsize steel. The combination of the round wooden head and the flattened paracord lanyard make the mini steels easy to use and very effective. And the best part is that Ben's offers them for $6.98 each, which $1.02 cheaper than they are on Lester River Bushcraft's own website ($8 each).
