The hang and throw are as good or better than many of the much more expensive axes I have looked at, and so is the grain orientation on the handle. The head is the perfect pattern and weight for general use and the steel is superb. The head alone is worth more than the asking price of this axe. Much like Mora knives this axe performs way beyond its price point. Additionally, it is always a pleasure to do business with Ben's Backwoods.

Would pick this axe if I was limited to just one outdoor tool to have period. Great size/balance and heft. Not a lot of hard use yet but enough to know I like it a lot. Would like to see a sheath or at least en edge guard. Also would prefer it not have the hole drilled in handle but small thing. The edge that is put on is superb.

This tool does what it was intended to do well. It was very nice to get this sharp and ready to go right out of the box.

this is a very attractive well-made axe, that you certainly cannot beat for the price. this handle length, makes it very versatile for a wide range of practical uses. I would definitely recommend this axe to a friend.

This is a great axe if you want very high quality at a reasonable price. Made in Germany and the workmanship shows it. I have to say though that the personal attention that
Ben adds to the axe by way of his superb sharpening job really makes the axe outstanding. Only thing that I wish it had was a quality sheath. That would be a good product for the site to offer as an option.

I'd give this axe a 5 star review except for the handle. It hasn't broken, but based on looks it is about as far off in grain orientation as you can get. I can get a new handle if this one breaks for seven bucks, so not that big a deal unless it breaks when I'm on a wilderness camping trip. And to be honest I didn't call or camplain to Ben's about it, so I don't fault him.
The head design is great for chopping and splitting. A very usable tool. Kind of ugly, but I stripped off the orange paint on the head and most of the orange on the handle. For the price you can't go wrong on this axe.

The steel is very satisfactory. It holds an edge very well, even when ground pretty thin. It's an ideal weight and pattern for me. I use it perhaps every other day and have never had any problems with it. I've seen others criticize it for swelling too rapidly as opposed to a GB, but I have no problems with this and can get it to throw dinner plate-sized chips pretty easily, as well as limb quite close to the wood. Biggest tree I've cut with it was about 18"-20" diameter silver maple, which, one would think, should qualify it as a capable general purpose axe. It might do well to be a 1/4 lb heavier, but 2 1/4 lbs certainly does everything I need it to do.
The handle I got was tough and flexible, but my one significant problem with this axe was the plastic wedge used to affix the handle. It was very annoying to remove when the axe began to work loose after much use, which is the only reason this isn't a 5 star review. But that's just how it goes, I suppose.

Great ax for the money. The hang is dead on as well as the throw. Handle is good also. The ax comes alreadt sharp and ready to go. More than the quality of this ax is the service that you get from Ben's. I have never had any problem with any orders. Shipping is very reasonable you are not paying extra as you do everywhere else. I had this ax delivered in under a week from placing order. Thank you Ben for this ax at a great price.
